‘Remember Me’ Plaques
RoadPeace believes that all those bereaved through road crashes have the right to place a roadside memorial at, or near, the crash site in remembrance of their loved one.
Floral tributes and cards, while deeply meaningful, are temporary. Flowers fade and cards deteriorate, eventually leaving no trace of the loss of life they represent.
In response to the need for a visible and lasting roadside memorial, RoadPeace launched the ‘Remember Me’ plaque in 2003. The initiative was launched by Cynthia Barlow, RoadPeace Chair, in conjunction with the Metropolitan Police Service and Jenny Jones, Mayor Livingstone’s Road Safety Ambassador at the time, and created with the assistance of Sweetapple.
The Purpose of the ‘Remember Me’ Plaque is to:

Provide a permanent memorial to lives lost and devastated through road crashes

Offer a visible reminder to other road users of the everyday risks of road use
A roadside memorial shows where an unnatural, violent, premature and unnecessary death has taken place. Families who choose to install a plaque are driven by grief, loss, and trauma, they do not want their loved one’s death to go unnoticed and often need a connection with the last place their loved one was alive.
