As part of a collaborative effort between RoadPeace and Birmingham Youth Offending Service, two young people have channelled their experiences and emotions into music, creating powerful songs that speak directly about the impact of dangerous driving.
Through their lyrics, they not only reflect on personal loss but also emphasise the importance of road safety and the consequences of reckless behaviour behind the wheel.
These songs, born from real-life experiences, are a testament to the power of storytelling in music. They not only shed light on the dangers of careless driving but also serve as a poignant reminder of the real and lasting impact that road crashes have on individuals and families.
Road Safety by Remiah/Remzz
In “Road Safety,” Remiah, known as Remzz, addresses the urgent need for road danger reduction and encourages listeners to consider the consequences of their actions behind the wheel. Remzz’s personal connection to the subject shines through his heartfelt lyrics, as he speaks from the perspective of someone who has lost a loved one to dangerous driving.
“I chose to write a track for the RoadPeace campaign to spread awareness of risks and hazards caused by dangerous drivers who have substance abuse issues and lack concentration while driving,” Remiah explains.
“I have previously lost somebody to dangerous driving, so I am aware of the impact it causes and how serious it is overall.”
One of the most striking lines from his song, “Losing a leg or losing a friend, there ain’t no difference,” captures the devastating nature of road crashes. It serves as a stark reminder that no matter the severity of the incident, the effects are profound and far-reaching.
Blue Lights by Kieron/K1
Kieron, known as K1, created “Blue Lights” as a reflection of his personal loss and a call to action for road safety. Through his music, Kieron addresses the dangers and consequences of speeding and how these reckless decisions can shatter lives.
“I decided to write a track for the RoadPeace campaign to address the dangers and consequences of speeding drivers and the effect it has on families and friends,” Kieron shares.
“I chose to write a track for RoadPeace due to losing my cousin to a speeding driver and wanted to raise awareness about how it can impact your family and anyone close to you.”
Kieron’s words speak directly to the heart, reminding listeners that behind every statistic is a grieving family, a lost loved one, and a community forever changed.
These songs are more than just music – they are calls for awareness, change and responsibility on the roads. They remind us that the impact of road crashes extends far beyond the immediate moment, affecting families, friends and communities in profound ways.
By sharing their stories through music, Remiah and Kieron give a voice to those who have been affected by dangerous driving and inspire others to think twice about their actions behind the wheel.
As we listen to their powerful messages, we are reminded of the need for compassion, caution, and respect on the roads. Let their words resonate and serve as a catalyst for change, so that no more lives are lost to preventable tragedies.
