At RoadPeace, we know all too well the devastating impact a road death has on families. The shock, grief, and practical challenges can be overwhelming, especially in the immediate aftermath. That’s why we are proud to support Joshy’s Heart of Gold, a charity founded in memory of Josh Osborne, a young boy tragically killed in a hit-and-run in 2019.
Joshy’s Heart of Gold provides vital emotional and practical support to families coping with the loss of a loved one on the roads. They are now looking for compassionate, committed trustees to help guide and grow their work, ensuring no family faces this journey alone.
Joshy’s Heart of Gold was founded in memory of Josh Osborne, a sweet, kind-hearted boy who tragically lost his life on 13th April 2019 . Josh was killed by an elderly unlicensed drink driver in a hit-and-run. Despite being airlifted to the Royal London Hospital, Whitechapel, he did not survive, and his family’s life was forever changed.
Following this tragedy, Josh’s mother, Victoria, discovered that there was very little practical or emotional support for families in the immediate aftermath of such a devastating loss. Determined to change that, she founded Josh’s Heart of Gold to provide the kind of help she felt was so desperately needed.
Since gaining Charity Commission approval in November 2021, our work has included:
- Providing one-off financial payments to help with travel, food, and accommodation costs during a hospital stay.
- Funding the decoration of a Family Well-being Room at the Royal London Hospital, a quiet and comforting space for parents and relatives.
- Running a support helpline five days a week for those who need someone to talk to.
- Launching the “Grieving Hearts” podcast, where bereaved families can share their stories and find connection.
We are now looking for new trustees—people with lived experience, compassion, and ideas—to help take the charity into a new chapter. As a trustee, you would play an important role in shaping how we continue to support bereaved families at their greatest time of need. We believe that those who truly understand the journey of grief are uniquely placed to guide our work with empathy and purpose.
By joining us, you would have the opportunity to:
•Share your voice and experiences to improve support for others.
•Help develop new initiatives and services that meet the real needs of grieving families.
•Be part of a team committed to making a positive difference in memory of Josh and all the loved ones taken too soon.
We know the decision to get involved in such work can be deeply personal, and we recognise the courage it takes to channel grief into action. But together, we can ensure no family feels alone in those first, overwhelming weeks and months after a tragedy.
If you would like to learn more about becoming a trustee, please contact us on 020 8090 0003 or email Josh.heartofgoldtrust@gmail.com.
