On-road tailgating is not only the No. 1 annoyance for British drivers but also responsible for 1 in every 8 collisions on our roads. Surprisingly, most people tailgate unintentionally, which makes them more dangerous compared to intentional tailgaters, who are at least aware and may stop in time if necessary.
To tackle this, Unitic Ltd. (a Scottish tech startup) has developed a clever device called RoadSage, which is the world’s first smart display that fits over your car’s rear-window and prevents rear-end collisions by alerting tailgaters autonomously. With a built-in rear camera, RoadSage is designed to provide drivers with a safe rear driving space.
RoadSage also aims to replace the age-old use of hazards lights for on-road communication, which is not only inconvenient to use but also illegal.
With RoadSage, you can convey your simple on-road intentions like “sorry” and “thank you” with a single voice command or the tap of a button, as RoadSage comes with a fully-voice assisted app that works with Siri and Google Assistant and RoadMote, which is a customisable wireless remote that provides easy access to commonly used commands.
RoadSage launched on Indiegogo on the 1st of November and got fully funded on the first day itself, receiving orders from all over the world.

Unitic’s mission is to make roads safer using technology and plan to develop a similar device for bikes soon.
