Members of the RoadPeace West Midlands and West Mercia Groups recently had the privilege of visiting Green Lane Mosque in Birmingham.
The meeting focused on shared goals to support victims of road crashes, reduce road danger and raise awareness about the profound impact of road death and serious injury on families and communities.
The visit followed a proposal to move the. RoadPeace’s outreach was met with enthusiasm, and Green Lane Mosque expressed eagerness to partner in this important work.
Here are the key developments from this exciting collaboration:
Artwork Installation – The mosque has agreed to install the RoadPeace artwork, previously displayed at the Cathedral, on the railings outside the mosque, ensuring its visibility to all who pass by. The thought-provoking artwork consists of four large doves featuring photographs of some of those killed on local roads – and links to a website where their family members have left tributes to them. The families of more than 40 crash victims have taken part.
Creating New Artwork – The mosque also plans to create a new piece of art. This project will be a collaborative effort between RoadPeace families, the children attending school at the mosque and the Youth Justice Team. CFG Law has generously agreed to fund this initiative. The artwork is set to be completed in the New Year, with an open evening planned to include a panel discussion on the critical need to make roads safer.
Video Campaign – Green Lane Mosque is also committed to creating a video in collaboration with members of the West Midlands Group. The video will be shared across the mosque’s extensive social media channels, reaching a wide audience with a strong message.
Ongoing Support for Midlands Events – The mosque has pledged its ongoing support for RoadPeace’s Midlands events, including the annual walk and talk and remembrance service. With 4,000 people attending the mosque every Friday and 690,000 followers on social media, this partnership has the potential to significantly amplify our key messages and reach a larger audience.
The collaboration between RoadPeace and Green Lane Mosque highlights the power of working together to create positive change. With the mosque’s support, there is great potential to raise awareness and foster safer roads, particularly for the younger generation.
