The images used on this website have been chosen because they reflect, as much as is possible, some of the real issues that surround road crashes and the devastating impacts upon people's lives. The images have been taken from two photographic exhibitions and we are grateful to both Paul and Eros for their collaboration in allowing us to use their images on our site. We also wish to recognise the courage of the families who took part, many of whom are RoadPeace members.
Paul Wenham-Clarke - "When Lives Collide"
Paul's exhibition is, in his words, "an attempt to cut through the statistics and to take a personal and emotional look at the issues. The people photographed have had their lives devastated....and the emotional consequences of these devastating collisions radiate out like waves on a pond. The exhibition aims to encourage serious debate and change of opinions."
Paul's photographs are a powerful combination of portraits of real people, real families and real suffering alongside crash images that have been sensitively reconstructed. Eros Mauroner - "Empty Rooms"
Eros Mauroner worked with Italian road victim organisation, Associazione Familiari e Vittime della Strada, in setting up the photographic exhibition "Empty Rooms". His photographs very powerfully depict a sense of emptiness that can be felt so painfully when someone dies suddenly in a road crash. So often those left behind feel unable to make changes to a bedroom, especially when it is a child that they have lost. Eros visited the homes of families to capture this for his exhibition and more images can be seen here.
