Annual ceremony of remembrance for road crash victims
The RoadPeace Wood is part of the National Memorial Arboretum in Alrewas, Staffordshire. Trees can be planted in memory of loved ones killed in a road crash.
Planting of trees in the Wood started in the Spring of 2001. The Wood was dedicated on 10 August 2002.
On the 2nd Saturday every August a ceremony is held, forming part of the August National Road Victim Month events, but of course people can visit whenever they wish.
The Wood is in a very peaceful setting on the eastern boundary of the Arboretum and borders the River Tame.
Much work is being done to attract wildlife and already otters have been sighted. The many different habitats that are being created support an abundance of birds, animals and insects. To the north of the wood, the flooded gravel pit acts as a refuge for many migrating water birds in the autumn and winter.
