Victims of collisions involving defective tyres
TyreSafe, a not for profit, non-commercial organisation, would like to hear from those who have suffered the loss of a friend or relative through fatal car collisions caused by tyres that were found to have below the legal level of tread depth (1.6mm). TyreSafe aims to raise awareness of the dangers of driving on defective or worn tyres, something which kills more than 40 people per year.
In preparation for Tyre Safety Month (October 2009), we would like to invite any interested victims to become ambassadors for a media campaign to help prevent such tragedies in future. Or from those who have been seriously injured by allowing their car tyres to be worn beyond the legal limit, or have lost their license or faced a hefty fine? The campaign will highlight an easy tyre tread depth check that anyone can carry out simply.
