Thank you to one of members, Bruce Cadbury, who has written this poem in support of joining RoadPeace. Bruce’s brother was killed in a crash in 1968. Bruce was inspired to write this poem after attending one of our online support meetings.
Was it… Your brother or your nan?
Your dad or your mam?
Your best friend or your son?
Your gramps or your auntie?
Your sister or your daughter?
Your grandson or your granddaughter?
That was…
A rider or a passenger
A pedestrian or a driver
Who
Died or was injured in
Or just witnessed
A road collision?
Was it then you discovered that you were not alone in this experience?
That your neighbour, your colleague, your friends, your teacher, your boss, your pupils had also gone down the same path…
Is it now that you want society to know that it’s not OK for the penalty for killing or injuring somebody on the roads is less than
- the penalty for petty burglary
- the penalty for possession of heroin
- the penalty for lying in court (perjury)
- the penalty for manslaughter
