The vital work of RoadPeace has been highlighted in an informative article aimed at helping nurses support patients and families following the ordeal of a road crash.
The feature appears in Nursing Standard, the UK’s most widely read nursing journal, which offers digital resources to keep nurses up to date with the latest developments, best practice and research.
RoadPeace spoke to hundreds of nurses last month at an exhibition stand at the Royal College of Nursing Congress in Liverpool. They expressed a real interest in the work the charity is doing to help road crash victims.
The article includes several case studies of nurses who speak about their personal or professional experience of car crashes, including campaigning RoadPeace member and critical care nurse Elaine Gordon who lost her sister Georgina Johnson, a nurse working in clinical governance.
Mary Goodchild, lead facilitator for the RoadPeace North West support group and resilience-building programme, has offered information about the way health professionals can support people experiencing road crash trauma.
RoadPeace chief executive Nick Simmons said: ‘This is a very powerful piece that highlights the victim experience, shows nurses how they can help and connects them to the supportive work of RoadPeace.’
Nursing Standard has offered open access on this article for RoadPeace until July 31 2019.
