On Tuesday 9th, RoadPeace West Midlands & West Mercia joined with the Birmingham Youth Justice Service to begin work on a very special project, the creation of a Remembrance Garden.
This garden will become a lasting space of reflection, remembrance, and healing for families, friends, and communities who have lost loved ones to road crashes. It is designed not only as a place to honour those who have died, but also to raise awareness about road harm and the importance of safer roads for all.
The first Community Gardening Day brought people together to start laying the foundations, planting, preparing the space, and sharing stories. It was an opportunity for volunteers, families, and young people to contribute to something that will grow and flourish over time.
As part of the project, mock-up designs and planning sketches were shared, helping everyone to visualise how the garden will develop, with features such as mosaics, flower beds, and seating areas for reflection.

The project is about more than creating a garden. It’s about creating a legacy:
-
A place of remembrance for those we have lost.
-
A place of hope for families and communities affected by road crashes.
-
A place of connection where people can come together, reflect, and support one another.
As the garden develops, it will stand as a living tribute, growing with the community and offering a peaceful space for reflection.
We are deeply grateful to everyone who helped begin this journey, and we look forward to continuing the project in the months ahead.
