RoadPeace celebrated Volunteer’s Week 2024 with an evening of testimonies music and fun from our amazing volunteers. Attendees joined both in person and online, with the venue being generously provided by Leigh Day, one of our Legal Panel members.
We heard powerful testimonies from Dee Beesley and Joanna Lewis, who had benefited from RoadPeace’s befriender scheme and then went on to join RoadPeace as volunteers themselves, as well as a presentation from Mandy Oliver, who turned the clothes of her son, Will, into beautiful pieces of art.
.
A touching musical interlude was provided by Mick Davis, one of our befrienders, and his friend Rosalind Sewell, with their Empty Hearts song.
This was followed by Colin Roberts, West Midlands group member, and Lucy Harrison and Abbie Brooks, RoadPeace staff and volunteers at the West Midlands group, who described the profound affect the group has had on so many lives, providing a place of connection and warmth. Colin, Lucy and Abbie reminded us all that joy and sadness can coexist
There was also a quiz, with prizes awarded for the top scorers, as well as prizes for the best purple outfits.
Merlyn Kendall, our local group facilitator in the North West, was sadly unable to join us on the evening. However, she chose a beautiful reading, ‘If’ by Rudyard Kipling, which was read out by Deputy Chair David Frost.
The event then closed with some final remarks from Belina Rauli, our head of support services, CEO Nick Simmons and Deputy Chair of Trustees David Frost.
It was a pleasure to see some of our incredible volunteers both in person and online, who make the vital work of RoadPeace possible, and enable us to fight for a safer future for all. We couldn’t be more grateful to everyone who plays a part in the RoadPeace family, thank you all for your tireless dedication.
