Latest Partnership Will See Law Firm Join The National Charity for Road Crash Victims’ Legal Panel
Irwin Mitchell and RoadPeace have announced a new partnership that will see the national law firm join the national charity for road crash victims’ Legal Panel, supporting its mission to provide access to justice for crash victims and their families.
The announcement of the initial 12 month partnership is intended to boost awareness of road safety issues in a year that has already seen changes to The Highway Code and the national debate over smart motorways intensify.
Founded in 1992 as a membership organisation, RoadPeace supports road crash victims. Members include those bereaved or injured in collisions and those concerned about road danger. The charity works for a world where road danger is not tolerated and where victims receive justice and compassion.
The partnership is a natural fit for Irwin Mitchell, whose legal experts continue to support those affected by collisions on the roads. The firm contributed to the government’s recent review of The Highway Code and supports clients like Claire Mercer, whose husband Jason was killed on a stretch of the M1 near Sheffield classed as an ALR (all lanes running) smart motorway.
With 15 offices across the country, Irwin Mitchell has been consistently ranked one of the country’s top law firms by independent legal directories. In 2019, it achieved Superbrand status, alongside international heavyweights such as British Airways, eBay, and LEGO.
Claire Newstead, a partner and specialist lawyer at Irwin Mitchell in Road incident claims for both families and victims, said:
“We continue to support too many people whose lives have been shattered as a result of death or injury on UK roads and who need expert help to rebuild their lives.
We are delighted to be working with RoadPeace and look forward not only to being a part of the legal panel, but supporting the charity’s essential work in supporting victims as well as campaigning for greater awareness of the issues surrounding safety on our roads.
Many of their aims and activities mirror our own and together we can do so much more to support those living with the aftermath of road crashes.”
Nick Simmons, RoadPeace CEO, said: “We are so pleased to be welcoming Irwin Mitchell to our Legal Panel. The support it offers is an invaluable resource for those seeking justice and families coming to terms with life after incidents on the roads.
This year is set to be another milestone in reducing road danger and we look forward to working alongside Irwin Mitchell in the years ahead as we continue to work towards changing attitudes and designing out danger for the benefit of all road users.
There are currently five road deaths a day in the UK, half the total of when RoadPeace was founded in 1992 but still an unacceptably high number. With the decline in road deaths having stopped in 2010, action is more important than ever.”
