Today marked a significant step forward in supporting bereaved families across West Mercia as the possession boxes were formally launched. This initiative, created in collaboration with RoadPeace and West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) John Campion, aims to provide comfort and dignity to those who have tragically lost a loved one on West Mercia’s roads.
A Heartfelt Moment
The launch event, attended by John Campion, Lucy, Abbie, and Stacey Roalfe, was deeply emotional. For Lucy and Abbie, this project is especially meaningful, as it stems from their personal experiences. Seeing these possession boxes in use is a poignant reminder of the positive change they have been able to bring about alongside RoadPeace.
Possession boxes offer families a dedicated, respectful space to store items belonging to their loved ones, collected from the scene of a road collision. Each box is thoughtfully designed to provide comfort at a time of immense grief, helping families to preserve cherished memories safely and with care.
The Impact of the Possession Boxes
For families navigating the devastating aftermath of a road death, these boxes offer a meaningful way to receive their loved one’s personal effects. While no box can erase the pain of loss, this initiative ensures that families are met with compassion and consideration during one of the hardest times in their lives.
We are incredibly grateful for the support of West Mercia PCC John Campion and our partners at RoadPeace, whose dedication has helped make this project a reality. Their commitment to improving support services for bereaved families has been instrumental in launching this initiative.
Looking Ahead
As these possession boxes begin to be used across West Mercia, we hope they will provide comfort and dignity to those facing unimaginable grief. We remain committed to working with RoadPeace and other partners to continue improving the support available to families affected by road deaths.
If you or someone you know has been impacted by a road traffic incident, RoadPeace offers invaluable guidance and support during such challenging times.
Together, we can honour the memories of those we’ve lost and support families on their path to healing.
