In Support of RoadPeace Challenge Action Week
As we mark RoadPeace Challenge Action Week, we honour the stories of those whose lives have been forever changed by road collisions. Below, Carole Sealey shares her deeply personal experience of loss and the support she received through RoadPeace.
On August 7th 2024 my husband died in a road traffic crash. From the moment the Police knocked at my door, my life changed forever. The trauma of the sudden unexpected loss is difficult to put into words but my whole world fell apart. I have never experienced such pain, distress and fear. It was my family liaison officer who offered to refer me to RoadPeace.
Kate from RoadPeace became my safety net and my lifeline. I would not have made it this far without her regular supportive telephone calls. The calls became my safe space, where I could let out all my emotions and share the thoughts and feelings that I didn’t want to share with my family and friends. Kate was very easy to talk to, a kind and patient listener, offering advice, support and guidance.
Kate also guided me through the traffic investigation process and the coroner’s inquest. I had so many questions, it was really helpful knowing I could always ask Kate and she would help me to understand.
I will be forever grateful to Kate at RoadPeace for helping me to navigate my way through the darkest time in my life. Her help has enabled me to keep moving forward, one day at a time.
