Global road death counter

The RoadPeace global road death counter uses an annual estimate of 1.275 million, which is the latest estimate by the World Health Organisation (WHO).
This is taken from the
Global Status Report on Road Safety: Time for Action (2009). Whilst it only shows road deaths, it should not be forgotten that WHO also estimates that for every person killed on our roads, another four suffer lifelong disabilities. If we also included the other deaths and disabilities caused by motor vehicles, most notably traffic-generated air pollution, traffic would be one of the leading causes of death, and would already exceed the annual toll from HIV/AIDS.
