You and Your Family Liaison Officer
Family Liaison Officers (FLOs) are a relatively new addition to British policing. London's Metropolitan police introduced them in 2000 to support families after a fatality and also provide a stable line of communication for investigations.
All bereaved families should be assigned a FLO by the police. They are part of the investigation team and their responsibility is to keep the family updated of the progress of the investigation.
RoadPeace has produced a briefing sheet, Your Family Liason Officer, as a guide for bereaved families on the role of the Family Liaison Officer with suggestions as to how to work together.
RoadPeace keeps in touch with Family Liaison Officer training procedures and attends quarterly meetings of Family Liaison and Co-ordination of Support Services, known as FLACSS.
