Annual event
Every year, on the second Saturday in August, a ceremony of remembrance is held at the RoadPeace Wood as part of National Road Victim month.
The ceremony offers an opportunity to reflect quietly in the peaceful and tranquil setting of the arboretum as well as the chance to meet other people who have sponsored a tree in the wood or have come to remember others.
During a short service, names of those being remembered are read out from oak leaves which are then buried amongst the trees of the RoadPeace Wood.
Every year as the trees at the National Arboretum continue to grow higher, more trees are sponsored in the RoadPeace Wood and more people gather together at this annual event, reflecting the increasing number of people and families affected by road deaths each day and each year.
The next Ceremony of Remembrance will take place on Saturday 13 August 2011.
